About Us

The Arizona Preventative Health Institute is an Arizona health care corporation. We currently provide various professional medical interventions to help specific groups achieve optimal results not otherwise possible in conventional primary care settings. In addition to our stop smoking clinic we are focused on connecting uninsured patients in need of surgical procedures and other interventions with lower cost, procedures in excellent hospitals in Mexico (www.medtogo.com). In addition, we run a 4 provider primary care practice that sees over 120 east valley residents a day. Our support staff of over 20 persons is always smiling and available to whoever has a question or a need. We are located on the Northwest corner of Baseline and Mill just south of the 60 in Tempe, Arizona.

Dr. Page was the first medical doctor to administer anticholinergic treatment for the purpose of stopping smoking in the State of Arizona. Since 2003, Doctor Page has treated over 3,500 Arizona residents and out-of-state visitors at APHI.

“When I first began treating patients I ran the Lifeline Stop Smoking Clinic”. We were very ill prepared to run the program and through trial, error and experience we worked out many of the early kinks and eventually started running a really solid program. The key to our evolution has been to develop a comprehensive program that offers people choices. With many people, anticholinergic therapy is all they want and will ever need, and we accommodate them. But, some people need or desire additional resources that go beyond eliminating nicotine withdrawal syndrome.  Thus we have developed a thorough follow up program that offers group behavioral counseling, additional medications  to help control cravings, depression or weight gain and other methods proven effective for nicotine cessation. About 20% of patients do not do well for some reason or another with anticholinergic therapy alone and it is these patients that we spend the vast majority of our efforts.  On the other hand, it is incredibly gratifying to receive calls and letters from so many people that we have helped finally kick the nicotine habit. Most of these individuals have smoked for most of their lives and are fraught with medical illness that makes their quitting essential. Yet, despite their efforts with gum, patches, ineffective hypnosis, etc they have been met with disappointment. To hear them call me the stop smoking doctor and thank me for finally unlocking the key to their health and happiness is extremely satisfying to me personally and as a physician.”
